Paperback. Condizione: Good. Essential information and outrageous anecdotes.a must-read for every true Washington sports fan that showcases the long-standing rivalries, quirky characters and memorable moments of both amateur and pro sports in Washington State: * Mariners Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr. were the first father-son duo to play together on the same major-league team; they also hit back-to-back homers * Sports Illustrated once called bowling's first Million Dollar Man, Earl Anthony of Tacoma, "the second greatest athlete from the state of Washington," behind only the great John Stockton of Zags and Utah Jazz * In 1930, Orin E. "Babe" Hollingbery led the WSU Cougars football team to the Rose Bowl, their last appearance in that bowl game for 67 years * Seattle Sounders FC midfielder Freddie Ljungberg is perhaps as famous for modeling Calvin Klein underwear as he is for his work on the soccer field * At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, the UW Huskies rowing crew took gold medals in shocking victories over the Germans and Italians, much to the ire of Adolf Hitler * Only in Seattle could an indoor NBA game get rained out--on January 5, 1986, the Sonics were playing the Phoenix Suns at the aging, leaky Seattle Center Coliseum. * And much more.…

Hardback. Condizione: Very Good. Scientific Essay from the year 2005 in the subject Psychology - Developmental Psychology, grade: 1,0, University of Kassel, language: English, abstract: Erik H. Erikson (1902 - 1994) is without a doubt one of the most outstanding psychoanalysts of the last century. The native Dane and later US-American further developed the psychosocial aspects and the developmental phases of adulthood in Sigmund Freud's stage theory. It is Erikson's basic assumption that in the course of a lifetime, the human being goes through eight developmental phases, which are laid out in an internal development plan. On each level, it is required to solve the relevant crisis, embodied by the integration of opposite poles presenting the development tasks, the successful handling of which is in turn of importance for the following phases. The term crisis does not have a negative connotation for Erikson, but rather is seen as a state, which through constructive resolution leads to further development, which is being integrated and internalized into the own self-image. Each (component) comes to its ascendance, meets its crisis, and finds its lasting solution (.) toward the end of the stages mentioned. All of them exist in the beginning in some form. Hence, the human development is a process alternating between levels, crises, and the new balance in order to reach increasingly mature stages. In detail, Erikson studied the possibilities of an individual's advancement and the affective powers that allow it to act. This becomes particularly obvious in the eight psychosocial phases, which now should be the focus of this paper. This demonstrates that Erikson did see development as above all: a lifelong process. Paperback. Condizione: Good. From the author of Cash Out, a hilarious novel about one working stiff's day of hooky--reminiscent of Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Office Space--and the insanity that ensues. Rick Blanco walks out of meetings. He's a serial meeting ditcher. A walk-out artist. He's so good that no one seems to notice when he just gets up and walks out. A corporate illusionist of the covert kind, he learned his trade studying a former colleague, the master of meeting ditches, Bob Watson. Rick continues Bob's legacy, going for more frequent and longer ditches, building on the art with every boring corporate meeting. Now, Rick wants to pull off his most important Bob Watson yet--skipping out of work to see his young nephew before he moves with his parents to Argentina. But things soon get complicated. As Rick leaves the office, he's mistaken for the company's human resources executive Dick Rayborne, a man made famous in HR circles for creating the hot new labor practice of "consourcing"--like "outsourcing" but with convicted felons. Convinced that he is the scummy Dick Rayborne, two cons, and a granny they call Mama, force Rick into six hours of mayhem, complete with home break ins and emergency board of directors meetings. Along the way, Rick realizes he has the opportunity to pull off the most meaningful Bob Watson imaginable, and still give his nephew a hug goodbye. Refreshing, witty, and clever, The Bob Watson is a madcap tale of danger, adventure, and personal discovery.  .…

Paperback. Condizione: Good. A fundamental assumption in most of the literature on leadership is that a few will need to control the many. This assumption leads to a search for power but with an either/or mindset: if I have power, then others cannot have as much as me or they will be a threat. Organizations, when anxious, experience limited ability to learn and change. There is an alternative, paradoxical way to understand leadership. A leader is most effective not by controlling others but by defining himself/herself. It is critical for leaders to face their fears, challenge their assumptions and thus be able to change their self-perception. A Leadership Paradox outlines such an alternative view of leadership and provides a model for achieving differentiated leadership. …
