The bluk of his research was conducted for the armed forces of the United States. Personal field research in many of the seas of the world was undertaken to collect this material. However, the work is not limited to the research of a single person, but is fortified by medical histories of individuals and institutions over a period of several hundred years. Every effort has been made to keep technical detail to a minimum, in order to be of practical value to the layman.
