Charmant album entièrement dessiné à l'encre de chine et orné de 52 planches humoristiques :- Les 25 premières planches narre l'histoire d'un militaire "vaillant guerrier ta rata ta tara ta ta rafla fla fla !" : chaque dessin est légendé en regard et en rimes. Une feuille cartonnée et ornée d'un ornement géométrique a été collé…sur l'une des légendes.- 18 planches (recto-verso) en ombres chinoises présentant des types de personnages : la nounou, le groom, Madame et Melles une telle, chasseurs.- 5 planches (recto-verso) intitulées : "Souvenir du 18 mars" représentant des militaires : le garde républicain, le chasseur d'Afrique, le chasseur à cheval et l'état-major.- 4 planches à l'encre avec rehauts de gouache rouge représentant des personnages illustrant des noms de journaux de l'époque : Figaro, Gil-Blas, Charivari, la Lanterne. Les esprits subversifs identifieront sans doute les deux duos finaux représentés sur la dernière planche et non légendés.Les dessins ne sont pas signés. "Henri de Sta was born in Versailles as Arsène Henri Saint-Alary. He began his career around 1882 with La Vie Artistique and the publishing house of Léon Vanier. Coming fr…om a family of militaries, garrison life became a regular theme in his career. De Sta worked as a humorous illustrator for Le Chat Noir since 1892. He was also present in Le Paris Bouffon (1885), Le Rire (1897) and Le Charivari (1900). He composed military alphabets, illustrated songs and produced comics for La Chronique Amusante from 1896, and for Les Contes Moraux et Merveilleux of the printing firm Pellerin d'Epinal."
