Carel Sirardus Willem van Hogendorp (1788 - 1856) foi um Governador-geral das Índias Orientais Neerlandesas em 1840 - 1841. A obra oferece uma perspetiva geral da ilha de Java (principal ilha da atual Indonésia) e de territórios próximos sob domínio holandês, ao nível económico, agrícola, administrativo e etnográfico.
