Der in die Schweiz emigrierte Dichter begegnet dem preußischen Militarismus mit Hohngelächter "aus käsiger Verzweiflung"; er macht in Tenderenda tabula rasa gegen die Kriegstreiberei korrumpierter deutscher Dichter und Denker. Verspielt und grimmig zugleich zappt der Erzähler durch die politischen und geistesgeschichtlichen Trümmerfelder - in der vergeblichen Hoffnung, Distanz und Halt zu gewinnen. Der als "work in progress" entstandene, an mancher Soiree erprobte Text gilt als "geheimes Vermächtnis" des Dadaismus.
