Hardbound. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Description: Illustrated in color throughout by Don Freeman (known for his Corduroy books and as the illustrator for William Saroyan's novels). All the monkeys in Monkey Village are in a tizzy. Something has happened that has never happed before. Mother Monkey has not just one baby monkey, not just two, but THREE baby monkeys. Third Monkey is treated well by the older monkeys, but not at all well by the young ones. They tease him. They say 'You are little and ugly and the third one.'' One day Third Monkey has enough of this and decides he will no longer do monkey things. He will leave and be different. But the more he tries to be different, the more he ends up acting just like a monkey. While Third Monkey is away learning about himself, the Monkey Village realizes they miss him and remember his good traits. When Old Leader tells the village that he is growing old and they must choose a new leader, they realize that Third Monkey's good qualities combined with his newfound wisdom make him the best choice. BNDING/CONDITION: khaki colored cloth with red text and vignette; a Good book, no dust jacket. Illustrated endpapers. 10.25 inches tall by 7 inches wide. 44 pages.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Illustrated by Don Freeman (illustratore). 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Color Illustrations; This is a stated first edition (complete number line) and is in a library binding. This book is in Very good condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The book covers have several spots of ground-in dirt, some rubbing to the spine ends and corners and some spots of fading to the rear cover. The text pages are clean and bright. "Don Freeman was first introduced to children's literature when William Saroyan asked him to illustrate several books. These include Human Comedy, which is considered one of his best-known works. However, his greatest influence came from the artist Honoré Daumier. Freeman studied many of Daumier's works, particularly his caricatures. He also owned a large collection of books on the artist. Throughout Don Freeman's career, he was the writer and illustrator of more than 20 children's books. He is best known for his publication of Corduroy (later became a 1990s animated direct-to-video series and a Canadian-produced television program was premiered on the PBS's "Bookworm Bunch" block in 2000). Although he came up with many of his ideas on his own, his wife Lydia Freeman contributed greatly to his success; indeed, she co-wrote two books with him, Chuggy and the Blue Caboose and Pet of the Met. She was very influential on her husband's work, as he relied on her for inspiration for his pieces. He would read his work aloud to her as well as any children around in order to gain feedback on a particular piece. Lydia too became a well-known artist in her later life. In his autobiography "Come One, Come All! Don humorously admits that of the two, she was the better (watercolor) artist. " (From Wikipedia).
