Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. VERY RARE TRANSITIONAL BINDING 1927/1928 MODERN LIBRARY EDITION IN DUST JACKET A Bed of Roses by W. L. George. New York: The Modern Library, 1927/1928 Reprint. RARE TRANSITIONAL BINDING. Bound in purple balloon cloth but a spine type 6 usually associated with leatherette bindings with Bernhard endpapers. Typical transitional bindings are known to exist from 1928-1929 but this book and dust jacket are from 1927 as titles on the inside of the dust jacket list titles from 1927 but none from 1928 indicating a 1927 printing or the earliest printing of 1928. The book is in VERY GOOD condition - spine is solid and boards are clean, gilt is very bright and nice. Minor spine split starting at title page but still intact. Matching topstain is nice. GORGEOUS AND APPEARS UNREAD. The dust jacket is VERY GOOD+ with minor chipping on top and bottom but otherwise extremely nice and bright and complete. On the inside of the dust jacket titles from 1927 are listed but not from 1928 indicating a 1927 printing WITH THE TRANSITIONAL BINDING. Now protected in an archival-quality dust jacket protector. VERY RARE EARLIEST TRANSITIONAL BINDING! **I WILL BE LISTIING OVER 400 COLLECTIBLE, RARE, OR SIGNED MODERN LIBRARY EDITIONS OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS FROM 30 YEARS OF ACTIVE COLLECTING AROUND THE WORLD - PLEASE VISIT MY SELLERS PAGE TO VIEW THEM ALL**.

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. SHEPARDSON BOOKSTALL, 20+ YEARS OF EXCELLENCE. VERY SCARCE, ONE OF A KIND SURVIVING BOOK WITH DJ. BOOK covered in green LEATHERETTE; spine #4 (1925-29); small gold torchbearer on front (1925-29); green topstain; Bernhard Endpapers; lower front right corner is bent, but otherwise a bright, clean copy. FRAGILE DJ is protected by mylar cover; has many chips, tears, side seam worn thru and is missing front inside flap but enough is left to figure out that this is an AUTUMN 1928 edition with 150 titles listed; Per Scot Kamins it has Apuleuis' The Golden Ass, but does not have Dostoyevsky's Brothers Karamazov. I photocopied and matched it up with another front flap from a 1928 book in order to show this (SEE SCANS). SUMMARY: One day young widow Victoria meets an old friend of her husband's in the park. He suggests that Victoria become his kept mistress and then she can stop working, regain her health, and be set financially. She feels this - or marriage - is the only way for a woman to get ahead, financially, in life. But she soon sees that this arrangement is just another type of job and her life is no bed of roses: He has involved her in prostitution. THIS WAS A BEST SELLER IN IT'S DAY AND MADE W.L. GEORGE RICH. AS IS.
