Later printing. 192pp. 7.25" x 5.5" FROM EDEN TO FLANDERS Brooke's poetry traverses a beautiful and tragic expanse, moving from lyrical paeans to nature to idealized visions of war. First published in the U.S. in 1915 and in Britain in 1918, his Collected Poems, particularly "The Soldier", occupy a singular place in both literary and cultural history as a touchstone of prelapsarian patriotism. His serene and idealistic tone continues to stand in stark contrast to the disillusioned war poetry that would soon follow, such as that of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon. Spine sunned to an olive green, small stain lower spine panel, overall a fine, internally clean and tight copy. Full green crushed levant morocco, gilt rules and inner dentelles, spine titled and decorated in gilt, silk ribbon marker, teg, marbled endpapers.
