Book very nicely preserved with a color pastedown title label on the spine. Jacket, alas, is chipped at both ends of the spine panel and is missing a triangular chunk at the top of the back panel, which is devoted to other new titles. The chunk removes most of the blurb for the first advertised book. The novel is set in the fictional duchy of Renthe in 1805. Van Loon compares the book to a Mozart minuet. Translated from the German by Phyllis and Trevor Blewitt.
