There is no edition number specified by the publisher for this 1953 edition, but the next edition in 1966 was stated as the 6th edition thereby counting the 1953 edition as the 5th edition and the 1943 edition as the 4th edition (1943 and 1953 were the only editions between 1940 and 1966). Before being rebound the text block was stupidly trimmed causing loss of the captions on several of the photos. Full collation of the book by me (every page) reveals that 2 photo plates, one smaller map and the big folding map at end ARE MISSING and have been REPLACED with photocopies from originals. Overall a working copy with full text and better photo quality than that found in the subpar recent paperback reprint which has low quality photo/map reproductions (reduced in size and awkwardly lumped together).
