Softcover. Condizione: Good. On the Road chronicles Jack Kerouac's years traveling the North American continent with his friend Neal Cassady, "a sideburned hero of the snowy West." As "Sal Paradise" and "Dean Moriarty," the two roam the country in a quest for self-knowledge and experience. Kerouac's love of America, his compassi…on for humanity, and his sense of language as jazz combine to make On the Road an inspirational work of lasting importance. Kerouac?s classic novel of freedom and longing defined what it meant to be ?Beat? and has inspired every generation since its initial publication more than fifty years ago. This Penguin Classics edition contains an introduction by Ann Charters.

Paperback. Condizione: Good. The original manuscript of this book, written between 1954 and 1965, has been in the safekeeping of City Lights all the years since Kerouac's death in 1969. Reaching beyond the scope of his Mexico City Blues, here are poems about Mexico and Tangier, Berkeley and the Bowery. Mid-fifties road poems, hy…mns and songs of God, drug poems, wine poems, dharma poems, and Buddhist meditations. Poems to Beat friends, goofball poemz, quirky haiku, and a fine long elegy in 'Canuckian Chlld Patoi Probably Medieval .an English blues.' More than the sum of its parts, the book reveals a questing Kerouac grown beyond the popular image of himself as iconic beat on the road. 175p.

Trade Paperback. Condizione: Fine. Reprint. Reprint. Brand new from publisher. 2006 Trade Paperback. 187 pp. Introduction by Ann Douglas. "The Dharma Bums is a 1958 novel by Beat Generation author Jack Kerouac. The semi-fictional accounts in the novel are based upon events that occurred years after the events of On the Road. The… main characters are the narrator Ray Smith, based on Kerouac, and Japhy Ryder, based on the poet and essayist Gary Snyder, who was instrumental in Kerouac's introduction to Buddhism in the mid-1950s. The book largely concerns duality in Kerouac's life and ideals, examining the relationship that the outdoors, bicycling, mountaineering, hiking and hitchhiking through the West had with his "city life" of jazz clubs, poetry readings, and drunken parties. One episode in the book features Smith, Ryder and Henry Morley (based on real-life friend John Montgomery) climbing Matterhorn Peak in California. It tells the story of Kerouac's first introduction to this type of mountaineering and would serve as inspiration for him to spend the following summer as a fire lookout for the United States Forest Service on Desolation Peak in Washington. The novel also gives an account of the legendary 1955 Six Gallery reading, where Allen Ginsberg gave a debut presentation of his poem "Howl" (changed to "Wail" in the book), and other authors such as Snyder, Kenneth Rexroth, Michael McClure, and Philip Whalen performed.
