Volume I reprints the best of Eckman's periodical contributions, on America's Composing Machines: Their Inventors and Promoters; Some Famous Printing Presses and How They Developed; Noted Printing Personalities and the Parts They Played; and, Glimpses of Printing History. Lawson gives a year's worth of famous days in the history of printing. Boutin relates fond memories of working with linotype machines.
