Von Interesse ist zum einen, in welchen Punkten sich Darstellungen gleichen und zum anderen, wodurch Unterschiede in der Beschreibung und Erzählung entstanden. Es müssen verschiedene Quellen verglichen werden, um so Unterschiede zum Beispiel in Herkunft des Textes und Verfassers, Glaubwürdigkeit und Intention, Zeitpunkt und Auftraggeber festzustellen.

Außerdem setze ich mich intensiv mit der Professionalisierung des Ehrenamtes auseinander, wodurch eine Beantwortung der Frage erst möglich wird.Der Fokus dieser Arbeit liegt auf den Aspekten der Parteipolitisierung und der Professionalisierung in Hinblick auf deren Auswirkung auf die ehrenamtliche kommunalpolitische Arbeit in ihren unterschiedlichen strukturellen Ausdifferenzierungen und den Zustand der Ehrenamtlichkeit als Grundpfeiler der Kommunalpolitik. Diesbezüglich gilt es zu prüfen, ob eine Parteipolitisierung die Menschen in ihrer gemeinwohlorientierten Haltung bestärkt und ob eine Professionalisierung auf dieser Ebene mit dem Ehrenamtsgedanken vereinbar bleibt. Die Forschungsfrage dieser Arbeit lautet dementsprechend: 'Wie wirken sich Parteipolitisierung und Professionalisierung auf die Attraktivität des Ehrenamtes in der Kommunalpolitik aus ' Der Hintergrund der Fragestellung soll im Folgenden mithilfe eines Überblicks über den Forschungsstand ausgeleuchtet werden.
