"A wide-ranging review and a welcome affirmation of the importance of counselling in career guidance" - Professor Tony Watts, Director of the National Institute for Careers Education and Counselling "By contextualising counselling in careers guidance historically within its theoretical and institutional settings, both in Britain and elsewhere, Migel Jayasinghe allows us to recognise its significance for society as well as for the individual" - Audrey Collin, Professor of Career Studies, De Montfort University "At last, we have a text which deals - head on - with issues at the heart of careers policy and practice. Jayasinghe traces and discusses the ambivalence, resistance, often blatant hostility to the self-evident truth that a counselling approach to careers practice is crucial to ensure positive outcomes for clients" - Jenny Bimrose, Head of Centre for Training in Careers Guidance, University of East London Making the right career choice has a profound impact on our lives. It influences our welfare, our sense of well-being and our state of mind. This book offers a thorough introduction to the principles and concepts of career development and shows how theoretical ideas can be put into counselling practice. It explores the major influences on careers counselling today, and examines the historical development of the field. The book ends with a look at the future development of career guidance and offers some helpful strategies for change. Counselling in Careers Guidance will be a useful resource for experienced advisers and trainees in the careers service, and those offering careers guidance in a range of professional settings. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.
