Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. Jean-Marie Elie Setbon, the son of non-observant French Jews, was first attracted to Jesus when he saw a crucifix at a young age. He hid a crucifix in his room and contemplated it often, even though he knew his family would be hurt and angry if they ever caught him. Seeing the Basilica of Sacre-Coeur from his apartment window, he was drawn to the church, where he found himself powerfully pulled toward Jesus in the Eucharist. After several years of surreptitiously attending Mass, he resolved to convert to Catholicism in spite of the scandal it would cause, but God had other plans. Upon graduation from secondary school, Jean-Marie moved to Israel to delve deeper into the faith of his ancestors. He lived in kibbutzim, learned about the history and religion of his people, served in the Israeli Army, and attended two different rabbinical schools. Eight years later he returned to France as an ultra-Orthodox Jew. While teaching in a Jewish school, Jean-Marie married a woman who shared his faith, and together they began raising a family; yet his yearning for Jesus remained, becoming the source of a long and difficult internal struggle. Jean-Marie's moving and unusual conversion story is about his battle between loyalty to his identity and fidelity to the deepest desires of his heart. Above all, it is a love story between Christ, the Lover--the relentless yet patient pursuer--and man, his beloved. …

Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good condition. Very Good dust jacket. Detroit, Michigan: Wayne State University Press, 1992. Very Good condition in a Very Good dust jacket. Not a book club edition. Clean, square, tight, and unmarked. No owner's name or bookplate. No remainder mark. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. Illustrated with 8 pages of photos and facsimiles of passport and other identity documents. Glossary. Captivating Holocaust memoir of this concentration-camp survivor [1942-1945, including Auschwitz-Birkenau, Jawischowitz, Buchenwald, and Theresienstadt]. First printing, with complete number row (54321) on the copyright page. Bound in the original white pictorial cloth. From the Dust Jacket: "When he entered Auschwitz in 1942, Moshe Garbarz was welcomed by a fellow inmate with a bitter speech. 'Tough luck, be brave,' he was told, 'No one can do anything for you here; there's no organization, everybody dies; you have three more weeks to live.' But for Garbarz, those three weeks became three years. Here is his riveting story of endurance and remembrance. First published in France in 1984, A SURVIVOR documents the daily struggle of an ordinary man to live through the wrenching hell of the Nazi death camps of World War II. In this simple diary of everyday events, Garbarz relives the horror and barbarism that he witnessed - the forced labor, near starvation, terrible beatings - helplessly watching the deaths of his friends. Told in a uniquely personal way, this is an unforgettable story of beating the odds, living moment by moment, and surviving at all costs under the most crushing of circumstances.". First Printing -First Edition in English. Hardcover. Very Good condition/Very Good dust jacket. 8vo. 522pp. Great Packaging, Fast Shipping. First Printing -First Edition in English.…
