This book details the challenges of the 1925 harvest and how this combined with the already depleted seed stocks from the poor 1924 harvest left seed dealers with very little stock by the end of 1925. The author observes that, although the crop shortages were not as widespread as in the previous year, shortages were just as acute for many items and were worse for some. Many hundreds of acres of beans were abandoned in the fields as they were too badly damaged to be worth salvaging, and the onion seed crop was close to a total failure. Vine, lettuce, pea, beet, and salsify seed crops were also low, with only a few vegetable varieties showing any surplus. The author concludes by noting that, despite the challenges of the past two seasons, seed dealers are optimistic and have been encouraged by a fair stock of standard varieties as well as some specialties.
