The book's dust-jacket art is a remarkably nostalgic image; the artist's name in the plate is quite bl…urry, but my best assumption is that the artist was R. John Hohngren, an esteemed American illustrator who did a number of works for Harper. The author of the book, Fred Gipson, was also the author of "Old Yeller", as well as a number of other well-received books. The story is immediate, true, and heart-tugging. Lots of old Texas dialect , which should tickle the kin-bones of a 'whole lotta folk'.
