Comb Bound. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fair. Julian Wehr (illustratore). 10 in. wide. Unpaginated; 1/4 in. thick. Color illustrations in full color, red and gray, and green and gray; the artist is not named. 4 illustrations can be animated with a sliding tab, by J. Wehr. All are in working order. One may not have the full range of motion for which it was designed. Two of the tabs are softened. One of the animated illustrations has a 1 in. slash that may have had a sliding part, but nothing appears to be missing. Four of the boards' corners and three places on the top edge of the front board are missing paper; other corners are a little rubbed. A 1/4 in. rubbed spot is on the spine. Ring holes that are torn through are the top and bottom ring holes of the first two pages, the bottom holes of three pages, and the bottom 2 holes of an animated page. The back pastedown has the remnant of a price sticker. The DJ has several closed tears and chips. DJ is in a mylar wrapper. Photos e-mailed upon request.

This is an animated book - There are five designs which have tabs to pull or move. When tabs are moved, another part of the picture moves. Only one tab does not work as originally designed; all others have their tabs and move as designed. Every page is colorful and bright. This is spiral bound' and all pages are well attached except title page which has two small tape repairs that tape it down to the front board. One other page has a tape repair that is barely visible. This is NOT an ex-lib. Covers are clean and bright with surface wear along the edges and corners. This is a 80+ year old book. it is in very good find of an early example of a pop-up/ animated book.

Plastic Comb. Condizione: Good. Of the six colorful 'animations' in this classic, three are intact; of the other three, the Tired Old Horse is missing from the first, Andy's arm from the scene with the soda tree, and the "Move" tab from the Prince's welcome. One page has a tear across the top bound corner, and many have small tears at the bound edges; the narrow, tight plastic comb binding, itself intact, has proven too tight for pages and cover to turn comfortably, and in fact the portion of the cover enclosed by the comb has become detached. Other than these and the predictable wear around corners and spine ends of the cover and occasional fingerprints in the page margins, attractive enough to offer to some nimbler-fingered devotee of the rag dolls as suitable for merging with another damaged copy to create a cheerful whole.
