Aber auch in Staaten, die die Todesstrafe abgesch…afft haben, wird immer wieder, vor allem bei schweren Gewaltverbrechen, der Ruf nach der Todesstrafe in groÃen Bevà lkerungsteilen laut. Die Todesstrafe ist also noch immer kein Relikt vergangener Zeiten, sonder im Zuge der Menschenrechtsbewegung seit der Nachkriegszeit präsenter und brisanter denn je. Kästel beschreibt und analysiert in neun Kapiteln die Aktualität, Zahlen und Meinungen in der Bevà lkerung zur Todesstrafe und wirft ausgewählte Problematisierungen der Strafrechtsphilosophie auf, die auch Rechtfertigungen erwägen. In einem Unterkapitel wird auch die Lage und Mà glichkeit erà rtert, ob eine Wiedereinführung der Todesstrafe in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland grundsätzlich mà glich wäre, wo sie doch von einer groÃen Zahl der Bevà lkerung befürwortet zu werden scheint. Welchen Einfluss und welche Bedeutung bei der Meinungsbildung und für die Ãffentlichkeit allgemein die Medien in der Todesstrafenfrage einnehmen, ist spätestens dann ein Anliegen einer Medienethik, seit wieder Ãberlegungen einer à ffentlichen Hinrichtung in einem westlichen Land erwogen wurden. Aber auch filmische und literarische Umsetzungen der Thematik werden anhand von Beispielen in einem weiteren Kapitel vorgestellt. Einen Schwerpunkt des Buches bildet die Stellung der katholischen Kirche und der Theologie in dieser sehr umstrittenen Thematik. Denn wenn die Todesstrafe begründet werden soll, sind dies zumeist staatstheoretische oder ethische Motive. Inwieweit die Todesstrafe gegen die Menschenrechte verstà Ãt und wie kirchliche und internationale Menschenrechtsorganisationen arbeiten und dagegen anzugehen versuchen, wird in diesem Buch ebenfalls betrachtet. Wie auf internationaler und europäischer Ebene das Problem zu bewältigen gesucht wird, zieht Kästel in einem Kapitel über internationale Interaktionsmà glichkeiten gegen die Todesstrafe in Betracht.
