This catalogue of his library consists of just over 1,200 books, broadsides and manuscripts and is arranged chronologically. Largely comprised of English-language Americana, it is the earliest catalogue devoted to the entire American continent, particularly New England. In addition, Kennett hoped that his library serve as the "common Fund and Treasury of all Remains of that Country," i.e., deposit library for missionaries unpublished papers, letters and journals. What remained of the library, about 320 titles, was dispersed at Sotheby s in 1917.
