Authors Kent C. Bloomer and Charles W. Moore propose a somatic framework, arguing that meaningful architecture emerges through haptic memory, bodily orientation, and sensory projection rather than detached two-dimensional geometry. Designed by Tina Beebe and set in Garamond type, the volume was published by Yale University Press in New Haven and London in 1977, issued simultaneously in two bindings and printed by Haddon Craftsmen. Analytical line diagrams, structural sections, and photographs contrast historic landmarks, including the Parthenon, Bernini's forecourt at St. Peter's, and Bavarian pilgrimage churches, with modern spatial environments.
