Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Original staple-bound printed tan card wraps 17x24cm. (1), 10pp. Wraps very good, lightly dusted with short closed tear to the front, interiors near fine, tanned. The Pact was concluded in Arabic in Cairo on 22 March 1945 by the heads of the states of Syria, Transjordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Leb…anon, Egypt, and Yemen to strengthen close relations, respect each others' independence, and promote the welfare of all Arab states. This English translation contains its text, and names the delegations except Yemen, generally led either by Presidents of their Council of Ministers or Foreign Affairs Ministers, respectively Faris Al Khury, Samir Al Rifa Pasha, Arshad Al Umary, Yusuf Yasin, Abd Al Hamid Karami, and Mahmoud Fahmy. Annexes address the Palestine question and invite a Palestinian delegate to join "until this country enjoys actual independence"; a commitment to cooperate with non-member Arab states; and the appointment of the first Secretary General for a 2 year term named here as Abd Al Rahman Azzam Bey. This edition is apparently very rare, with Worldcat locating only one at Stanford.

Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. Self wraps 20 x 33cm. 24pp including title page. Parallel English and French text, in 2 columns. Near fine, lightly tanned, with odd numbered pages also numbered by hand, and small chip to the outer edge of the final leaf, not affecting text. This was the first multilateral treaty for the suppr…ession of the trade. It built on the Congresses of Vienna 1815 and Verona 1822 (which provided unenforced condemnation), by giving powers to ensure "the final abolition of that Traffic", and Belgium acceded in 1848. It declares trafficking an act of piracy (Art.I), empowers warships ("Cruizers") the right to stop, search and seize suspected merchant ships in the Atlantic and Indian Oceans (Art.II-VIII); describes features to identify whether a vessel is "fitted out for that Traffic" (Art. IX); addresses confiscations, punishments, and wrongful detention (Art.X-XIII), cooperation between signatories, etc. Annex A addresses stop and search Warrants, and Annex B instructions for Cruizers. Oblong 4to (333 x 230) mm. Photo album with 12 baryte paper prints (125 x 110 mm) and 1 press photo (225 x 191 mm), the latter captioned, stamped and dated. Blue full percaline with gilt cover ornaments. Cord binding. A fine ensemble of photographs documenting the historic state visit to Iraq by King Saud of Saudi Arabia in May…1957, apparently photographed and assembled by a member of the Iraqi entourage closely involved throughout the visit. King Faisal II of Iraq and his Prime Minister Nuri As-Said met with King Saud to discuss the Pan-Arab movement led by Gamal Abdel Nasser, involving anti-monarchist efforts in Jordan. Eventually, talks in Baghdad were wound up "with a pledge to coordinate resistance to communism and a warning that no Arab state should meddle in the affairs of its neighbors" (caption of the press photograph). - The collection includes previously unseen pictures of the monarchs' arrival by car and carriage respectively, their mutual exchange of greetings, and the state dinner, as well as the subsequent talks held in the palace garden. - Not traced in the Keystone or Hulton/Getty press photo archives. In excellent condition.
