Knox came to Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 1757 with his regiment, the 43rd Foot, to participate in Lord Loudon's intended expedition against Louisbourg; this attack was postponed, however, and the regiment was not employed in Amherst's successful siege. They were present at the battle of the Plains of Abraham, served in the winter of 1759-60 under James Murray at Quebec, and were with Murray at the capitulation of Montreal in 1760. Knox's personal observations are supplemented by valuable contemporary documents, official orders, and other papers both British and French.
