The reconstruction of these buildings, resulting from studies of the Nazi period, was to serve as an admonishment as well as a memorial. At the same time, the historical architectural importance of the buildings was to be called to mind. Encouraged by the very positive response to the initial project, the decision was made to expand it to include the computer reconstruction of 15 other well-known German synagogues.
