Soft cover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. Cover photograph by Alfred Gescheidt (illustratore). 1st Edition. States "Original Permabook edition . . . published July, 1956 / 1st printing . . . May, 1956." M-3046 originally priced at 25 cents. No reading creases to spine BUT there's a noticeable vertical "browsing crease" to front wrap about 3/4-inch from spine, and an inch-and-a-half diagonal crease to bottom corner of rear wrap. First "promo" page also shows the rubber stamp of previous dealer "Rex's Books Comics Magazines Furniture" (furniture?), Pueblo, Colorado. We'll call it "very-good-minus," which is a lesser grade than we'd usually stock, save that this is a true MM paperback first of an interesting title, still square, tight and easily read. Kuttner (1915-1958) generally wrote American pulp science fiction, fantasy and horror. He worked in close collaboration with his wife, C. L. Moore, whom he met through their association with the Lovecraft Circle, a group of writers and fans who corresponded with H. P. Lovecraft. Most of the married couple's work was published under joint pseudonyms, mainly Lewis Padgett or Lawrence O'Donnell. A friend of Lovecraft's as well as of Clark Ashton Smith, Kuttner contributed several stories to the Cthulhu Mythos genre invented by those authors, including "The Secret of Kralitz" (Weird Tales, October 1936), "The Eater of Souls" (Weird Tales, January 1937), "The Salem Horror" (Weird Tales, May 1937), "The Invaders" (Strange Stories, February 1939) and "The Hunt" (Strange Stories, June 1939) He died of a heart attack in Los Angeles in 1958. This volume 146 pp. followed by 6 pp. of ads for various Doubleday book clubs. Reduced from $12.50.

Softcover. Condizione: Good. Magazine. "When New York Vanished" illustrated by Alex Schomburg. Quarto. Illustrated wrappers. Typical wear to yapped edges with chips and a few long tears (affecting a bit of text), stain on the cover and first page with small stains at the bottom margin of several pages, external tape repair on the cover, good only. Features: The first appearance of "When New York Vanished" by Henry Kuttner, "The Phantom Teleview" by Bob Olsen, and the first appearances of "Station Death" by Oscar J. Friend, and "Guinea Pig, Ph.D." by Alfred Bester. Stan Lee once praised illustrator Schomburg stating, "Alex Schomburg was totally unique. I remember hearing Timely Comics publisher Martin Goodman tell me time and again how great a cover illustrator Alex was, and how he wished we had more like him. He was the only artist I knew able to combine strong, dramatic layouts, and exciting superhero action with a simplistic, almost cartoony style of execution.".
