Reliure en demi-basane fauve racin…ée, dos lisses ornés de pièces de titre et de tomaison en maroquin rouge et vert, filets et pointillés dorés, tranches jaunes, signet (reliures du début du xixe siècle). (présence de quelques trous sur les dos des volumes et de petites galeries de ver en bordure des dos des tomes I-III et de celui des débats, quelques feuillets maladroitement rognés au tome I, présence de rousseurs pâles, mouillures à de nombreuses pages au tome V avec parfois atteinte au texte, sont manquantes les tomes II et VI ainsi que 11 planches, quelques erreurs de paginations notamment au tome III). Créées par décret de la Convention Nationale afin de former les instituteurs de langue française, les Écoles normales ont eu une durée de vie très courte : 4 mois, du 1er pluviôse au 30 floréal de l'an III ( 20 janvier - 19 mai 1795 ). Les leçons qui étaient professées, par les savants les plus illustres, devaient être toutes improvisées, recueillies par la sténographie et publiées dans le journal de l'école créé à cet effet, de même que les débats ayant lieu une fois par décade, à l'occasion desquels les élèves discutaient avec les professeurs. Notre série ne contient que 17 planches ( sur 28, gravées sur cuivre ), ces planches ont été placées à la fin du tome V; elles concernent les cours de géométrie descriptive. Ensemble en reliures uniformes, ce qui est rare, car ces cours étaient distribués feuille par feuille. SONT MANQUANTS 2 TOMES ( II - VI ) et 11 planches. RARE.

(Henri Georges Le Compasseur de Créqui-Montfort Marquis de Courtivron (1877 - 966) was a French explorer, anthropologist, diplomat, businessman and sports shooter, who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics and in the 1924 Summer Olympics. Crequi-Montfort and Eugène Sénéchal de Lagrange were sent in 1903 by the Ministry of Public Instruction to Bolivia, Peru, Chile and northern Argentina, to head the French scientific mission. The two were charged with exploring the Andean highlands. During this mission, Georges Courty and Adrien de Mortillet conducted archaeological excavations at Tiahuanaco. )

A French scientific map of South America. - So far, the cartography of the Bolivian region of the Andes is quite poor. For Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile, the general maps are still incomplete, even embryonic, but on the whole, quite satisfactory. For the Bolivian territory, no serious cartographic work exists to our knowledge. The maps of Ondarza, Reck, Muchin, Moreno, Idiaquez, Pando are more or less official publications, but all their documentation is based on information communicated by the local administrators. And, unless we are mistaken, very few of the cartographers knew first-hand the terrain represented. The recently published map of the Créqui Montfort-E. Sénéchal de la Grange Mission fills a signifiicant gap, it is more than simply and improvement, it is a foundational map, it will be a solid starting point and will serve as a basis for all future studies. Thanks to this map, for the first time, we can grasp, in outline, the topographic anatomy of these high Bolivian plateaus which constitute a region so original and so distinct. The map of the French Mission, besides the high plateau of Bolivia, that is to say all the Republic of Bolivia (minus the plains of Beni and Chaco), also offers us the Peruvian departments of Arequipa, Puno and Moquegua, the Chilean provinces of Tacna, Tarapaca and Antofagasta. It includes, in addition, the territory of Argentina, the province of Jujuy, part of that of Salta and the Argentine national territory of the Andes. In short, it shows all the high plateau of South America from 15 ° to 26 ° lat. S., in a developed format (1m 70> <1m 30). The Bolivian provinces of Lipez, Chichas, and Porco, left almost blank by the old maps, appear here in all the reality of their relief, delineated with the greatest care. For the departments of Arequipa and Moquegua, for the provinces of Jujuy and Salta, the French map also introduces important new detail . This is a beautiful work that honors its creators and authors, well served, the rest, for the translation of their observations and statements, by the talent of the draftsman, Mr. Victor Huot. Créées le 9 brumaire an III par décret de la Convention Nationale afin de former les instituteurs de langue française, les Écoles normales ont eu une durée de vie très courte ; 4 mois, du 1er pluviôse au 30 floréal de l'an III (20 janvier - 19 mai 1795). MONGE Y EXPOSA SA GÉOMÉTRIE DESCRIPTIVE ET LAPLACE SON HYPOTHÈSE COSMOGONIQUE. Les leçons qui étaient professées, par les savants les plus illustres, devaient être toutes improvisées, recueillies par la sténographie et publiées dans le journal de l'école créé à cet effet, de même que les débats ayant lieu une fois par décade, à l'occasion desquels les élèves discutaient avec les professeurs. Plus de 180 cours furent ainsi donnés, par 14 professeurs nommés par décrets : Lagrange et Laplace pour les mathématiques, Monge pour la géométrie descriptive, Haüy pour la physique, Daubenton pour l'histoire naturelle, Berthollet pour la chimie, Buache et Mentelle pour la géographie, Volney pour l'histoire, Bernardin de Saint-Pierre à la morale, Sicard à la grammaire, Garat à l'analyse de l'entendement, La Harpe pour la littérature et Vandermonde pour l'économie politique (Thouin, nommé pour l'agriculture, ne put jamais donner de cours). Ex-libris manuscrit de l'époque aux titres des 6 premiers tomes. Très bon exemplaire en reliure uniforme, sauf pour le tome 7, non rogné, sous couverture d'attente de l'époque (usagée). Petits accrocs au plat supérieur du tome 6 et à la coiffe inférieure du tome 5. Une lacune de 2 cm environ à un feuillet du tome II, avec perte de texte. Quelques annotations anciennes.
