First American Edition. 140 p, original publisher's binding measures 8 x 5 , 8vo. In poor condition. As is. Front board to title page detached from binding. Boards scuffed at edges and worn/bumped at corners. Large water or tea dampness staining at top corner of text-block (including binding), causing rippling. Spine heavily chipped with exposed binding; title label intact, but moderately rubbed & barely legible. Old-hand ownership, in ink, inscription on front end-page: "Presented by the ?, in Boston, May 27th 1819; W. H. H. Spinnwall, Wash'ton, D.C., Jan. 9-94". Toning and scattered age-staining throughout text-block. Errata slip found tipped-in on [viii]. Original publisher's binding very fragile. Please see photos and ask questions, if any, before purchasing. Charles Philibert de Lasteyrie (1759 1849) was a French agronomist, lithographer and philanthropist. Henry Alexander Scammell Dearborn (1783 1851) was an American soldier, lawyer, author, and statesman. Dearborn was the first President of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, a member of the Society of the Cincinnati, and the author of many books. The text explains everything conceivable about pastel and indigo, including history, analyses and processes, extraction, harvesting and diseases. First American Edition/English translation.
