Plates created from designs made expressly for this edition by Joseph Lauber. The images depict scenes from The Life & Voyages of Christopher Columbus, Astoria, Tour on the Prairies, Newstead Abbey, Life of Mahomet, Life of Oliver Goldsmith, Bonneville's Adventures in the Far West, The Crayon Papers, and Moorish Chronicles. Title page included for reference. Full pages measure 10.25" x 6.75". Nice for framing. Irving, 1783-1859, was an early American author and historian known for his delightful tales & sketches, including The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle. Lauber, 1855-1948, was a German-born artist who emigrated to New York City and studied under Walter Shirlaw & William Merritt Chase; his works include murals, etchings, sculpture, stained glass, and mosaics. He was the recipient of numerous awards and medals.

Front cover has reproduced the first color image in the book, of a boy shown climbing on the red tile roof of a house. Wear to extremities with the paper just worn through on the corners, front cover panel colors slightly faded, paper over boards lightly soiled, upper rear corner bumped, else very good to near fine. This is the third volume of a three-volume work which began publishing in 1890 by Attinger Freres, Neuchatel and was finally completed in 1892 and issued by Fischbacher in Paris. It contains both lyrics and musical scores for accompaniment. Joseph Lauber [1864-1952] was a prolific Swiss composer, who taught at the Geneva Conservatory for many years. Lucie Attinger [1859-1928] was a Swiss artist known for her painting.
