In dem Werk, das uns der Holzschnittmeister…Johannes Lebek aus Zeitz geschenkt hat, vereinigen sich Wort und Bild, um die Schöpfung darzustellen, wie sie ist. Die Worte in Haydn's Oratorium sind nicht bedeutend und wären längst vergessen, wenn nicht die Gewalt der Töne über sie gekommen wäre. Die Worte aber, die sich Meister Lebek in seinem Holzschnitt-werk zum Vorwurf genommen hat, sind unsterblich. Es sind die Worte des 103. Psalms, heilige Worte, niedergeschrieben unter Eingebung des Heiligen Geistes, Gottes Worte. Majestätisch schreiten die Verse des 103.Psalms durch dieses Werk. In gläubiger Demut begleiten die Bilder die Verse des Psalms und versuchen, den Inhalt zu veranschaulichen. Mit Liebe hat sich der Künstler in die Einzelheiten versenkt und auch auf Kleines große Sorgfalt verwandt, immer sich bewußt bleibend, daß die Tiefen nicht ausschöpf bar sind. Wie könnte es auch anders sein! ?Die unbegreiflich hohen Werke", heißt es im Engelsgesang des Faust-Prologs, ?sind herrlich wie am ersten Tag." Anbetende Ehrfurcht vor Jenem, den wir täglich als den Schöpfer des Himmels und der Erde bekennen, hat dem Künstler die Hand geführt.
