First edition, first printing of this "classic Confederate memoir is said to have been General George C. Marshall's favorite Civil War book. Ned Moore was a student at Washington College in Lexington, Va., when the war started. In early 1862 he joined the renowned Rockbridge Artillery, with which unit he served faithfully until Appomattox. Moore participated in most of the battles of the Army of Northern Virginia, and was wounded at Sharpsburg and at Cold Harbor. He also spent some time dodging Hunter in the Shenandoah Valley in 1864. The book was reissued in 1910 by J. P. Bell Company, of Lynchburg."
