Dabei ist das Verstehen geschichtlich bedingt und wird zugleich sprachlich vermittelt. Das ursprüngliche Phänomen des Verstehens, das den Wirklichkeits- und Wahrheitsbezug hat, ist nie auf das Spezialproblem geisteswissenschaftlicher Methodenlehre zu reduzieren und einzuschränken und damit nicht durch das strenge Verfahren wissenschaftlicher Methoden aufzuklären. Diese Arbeit, die einen qualitativ-ursprünglichen Ansatz verfolgt, stellt die Frage, wie der Begriff von Erkenntnis und Wahrheit zu gewinnen ist, der über die Kontrolle wissenschaftlicher Methoden hinausgeht. Das hermeneutische Verstehen, das die Sachlichkeit und den Wahrheitsbezug besitzt, ist nicht vom modernen Bewußtsein, das die Dichotomie von Subjekt und Objekt betreibt, zu erschließen und zu gewinnen, sondern vom hermeneutischen Bewußtsein, welches die Wirkungsgeschichte der Sache selbst anerkennt und sich sprachlich konstituiert. Das hermeneutische Verstehen geschieht universal in der Sprache, die schon auf die Sache selbst bezogen ist. Die Sprache ist insofern der eigentliche Ort der Wahrheitserfahrung und das universale Medium, durch das sie aufgefaßt und mitgeteilt wird. Die kritische Auseinandersetzung mit der Platonischen Sprachauffassung und den mittelalterlichen Sprachauffassungen stellt die Sprache als das universale Medium des hermeneutischen Verstehens dar.; Dissertationsschrift.
