Taschenbuch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware -The Consortium of European Research Libraries (CERL) was founded in the early 1990s, a time when borders were opening and the spirit of transnational cooperation was blossoming. It brought together important European research libraries in their endeavour to use data technology to share the…contents and riches of their historical collections, dating back to the middle of the 19th century, and to make our common European heritage accessible. This publication is of central importance to the history of CERL. The articles mirror the experiences and reflections of key people from the foundation years: Dr. Lotte Hellinga, the first Secretary of CERL, as well as Dr. Ann Matheson and Professor Dr. Elmar Mittler, the second and third Chairs, who integrated CERL's activities into the European and international library context. Dr. Robert (Bob) Henderson illustrates the beginnings of the HPB, the Heritage of the Printed Book Database, highlighting data issues related to early European printed books. The authors revive the authentic atmosphere from the founding years of the international, collaborative CERL network, the strong membership organization and the dedicated community for Europe's printed heritage that we know today. 90 pp. Englisch.

Condizione: Wie Neu. Zustandsbeschreibung: leichte Lagerspuren/minor shelfwear. The Vitality and Dynamics of Retrospective ?National? Bibliographies for European Print Cultures to the Middle of the Nineteenth Century. Edited by Olga Tkachuk, Marian Lefferts and Claudia Fabian. Papers based on the CERL Conference "Retrospective B…ibliographies and European Print Cultures to 1830 - Challenges and Perspectives in the Digital Age" at the Ossolineum Library, in June 2023. In many European countries, librarians and researchers are working to compile a detailed bibliographic overview of early modern books printed within a defined time frame and within territorial and linguistical boundaries: they are creating modern retrospective 'national' bibliographies. The contributions from 14 countries in this publication illustrate this rich and diverse activity and demonstrate the various approaches in the digital age. Their approaches are anchored in the past, as each 'national' bibliography defines its scope within a careful analysis of the history of the country or nation, and rely on present-day cataloging, study of book history and new possibilities in the digital environment. The Consortium of European Research Libraries (CERL) strongly supports data aggregation (as reflected in the data network it maintains) and data linking. Improved interoperability today supports opening of data and making it available beyond silos and databases. This is therefore a good time to provide an overview of the European data landscape for retrospective 'national' bibliographies, as these contain valuable and sustainable data with an impact on the semantic universe. They are closely related to research, are quality-controlled, provide reliable data and are rich in content. Their interaction with other library data, e.g. through authority control or thesauri, but also through copy-specific information, has the potential to considerably expand the role of retrospective bibliographies in the research areas. This will be a challenge for their ongoing development and sustainability and explains the title of this book "Never Finish(ed)". XII,212 Seiten mit 71 Abb. und 6 Tab., broschiert (Consortium of European Research Libraries. CERL Papers; Vol. 15 2024/Harrassowitz Verlag 2025). Statt EUR 48,00. Gewicht: 436 g - Softcover/Taschenbuch.
