Many of the book's chapters are illuminated by biographical details and anecdotes about famous musicians whom Auer knew: Davidov, Wieniawski, Seidel, Wilhemj, Sarasate, and von Bulow. Receiving poor direction at an early age is disastrous for a violinist.
