They are quite clean, maybe a little spot off the front bottom edge. The lettering on the front and spine is nicely bright. There's some of the usual crinkling at the spine ends, no tears. The cover edges are in excellent shape, no rubbing. The same goes for the cover corners. The spine has a slight to moderate forward lean, but the book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The inside covers and end papers are red. They are all very clean and free of wear. The interior the book is in very nice condition. I scrolled through the pages a good number of times. They are, in the main, very clean. I saw a tiny amber spot off the bottom edge of three consecutive pages, obviously very far from the print. I also saw one other page with a tiny amber spot just off its bottom edge, and one other tiny spot off the middle edge of one page. There is one thin placeholder crease. I didn't see any other creasing. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. I have always had it in a fitted protective cover. There is a small loss off the top edge of the front cover and two tiny ones off the top edge of the rear cover. The spine is somewhat toned and has a couple of small whitish spots. The flaps are in very solid shape, no conspicuous soiling, no tears or losses. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. From the dust jacket: 'With the South African publication of this novel, the first in a trilogy, Etienne Leroux was hailed as his country's most brilliant and original novelist and attacked as an immoralist.
