Rebound Hard Cover. Condizione: Good +. No Jacket. Kurt Wiese (illustratore). 1st Edition. Yinka-Tu the Yak by Alice Alison Lide was published by The Viking Press, New York, in 1938. This approximately 7 1/4" X 10 1/4", 63-page, 74-year-old, First Edition offering is an ex-library copy in G+ condition. In overall firm, sound physical shape for its 74 years of service to readers of all ages, but especially to younger ones, there is some modest yellowing of end papers front and back as well as the pages of text. Rather minimal library markings are present, but there is a rectangular-shaped area of modest roughness in lower-left corner of front paste down page from past removal of a circulation card pocket/holder, and there is a 1" X 2" area of some stickiness in the middle of the top edge of the back cover board with, extending from said area's bottom, right side, a diagonal, 3 3/4"-long line, in black marker. A 3" X 8 3/4", summary strip(the missing dust jacket's front inside flap, of course) is attached to the back loose end page. From said clipped flap, "The tale of little boy Sifan of Tibet and how his father gave him an orphan yak calf which he named Yinka-Tu--the White One. How Sifan raised the yak himself and of his bravery in saving the life of a lama of the yellow robe. And how he set out with Yinka-Tu to deliver the lama's message to Mobasa, a great monastery that lay to the south, what befell him on his long journey--and what awaited him at the end of it. The illustrations in color by Kurt Wiese are large and bold and spread from page to page picturing deep cold rivers and towering mountains, and showing great sympathy and humor for the boy Sifan and his white yak." This exciting tale of a boy and his pet, both growing to young, but ever stronger and more capable maturity, can indeed be read and enjoyed by readers of all ages, and even listened to by smaller ones in group readings--their collective interest will be latched onto and securely held. And, truly, the manners and traditions of the people of Tibet are faithfully recorded/instilled throughout the story, but in a casual, very natural way, so as not to even hint at taking our eyes from Sifan and the White One's exploits. Finally, the frequent, richly colored Drawings of Kurt Wiese, some of which span/fill up adjoining pages, really do bring many of the characters and settings alive, and, to me, appear to be executed in a somewhat subtle combination of crayon and colored pencil - a tleast, the pictures have that "look". This is a lovely offering, both the words and the art. Thanks very much!!
Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Hardcover. Tan and yellow paper over boards with blue cloth over spine. Yellow lettering on spine. Illustration of boy with yak on front cover. Title and copyright pages dated 1938.63 pages. In good condition. Covers are quite toned, with speckled fading and light tidelines on front and back covers. Small red and green smudge on back cover, possibly crayon markings. Fair amount of bumping along head and foot of spine, as well as at corners -- has caused some wear to spine and paper, partially revealing boards beneath. Color illustrations by Kurt Wiese throughout. With the exception of a few smudges here and there as well as some light toning from age, pages are clean, free of marks or tears overall. NOT an ex-library copy. Outside appearance is a bit more worn, but inside contents remain in good, readable condition.
