Brown buckram boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine. 82 pp 8vo. This book is a poem telling the allegorical story of Mary Magdalene's journey from sin to salvation. The poem, preserved in manuscripts from the 1620s, was first published in 1899 as part of the Early English Text Society's Extra Series, no. 78. It vividly portrays Mary's worldly indulgence and subsequent redemption through divine grace, following an archaic and Spenserian style of poetry. The poem is in two sections, the first describes Mary Magdalene's life of worldly pleasure, while the second chronicles her repentance and salvation. The narrative uses an Allegorical Style that uses rich imagery and personification, akin to the styles of Geoffrey Chaucer and Edmund Spenser. It explores themes of the conflict between flesh and spirit, divine grace, and the concept of a spiritual transformation. A clean very presentable copy.

Cover is very good showing only some minor bumps to spinal ends and a light sticker shadow to bottom spine. Interior is fine presenting some library stamps and marks at… beginning and at end, an ancient sgnature on ffep, and pages are lightly yellowed. Some pages are still uncut.
