Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. 1st Edition. Original publisher's green-gray cloth binding. Original black-and-white illustration tipped in on front cover. No lettering on spine. 7" x 10." Pages [5], 1-109, 1-61, complete. Small black-and-white in-text maps, complete. List of Maps in front. Two additional pages in back have positive testimonials for Burton Holmes Travelogues (which are sold separately). Pages are very clean and intact except for light age toning, slight offsetting on front and back endpapers, and several pages (about six in total) with offsetting from flowers that were formerly laid in. Covers are very clean and intact except for a spot of fading on back, light rubbing, and slight wear to extremities. A Very Good copy. This book is divided into two parts. It contains unanswered questions and a brief series of travel advice. The first part, which is about 109 pages, comprises a list of unanswered questions with answers found in Volumes One through Thirteen of the Burton Holmes Travelogues (none of which are contained herein; this book acts more as an accompanying index or supplement to the Travelogues). The Table of Contents of this first section corresponds to the unanswered questions. The questions pertain to subjects that range anywhere from geographical trivia (such as "From what was the Sphinx carved?") to the geopolitical or philosophical (such as "What people do not look upon singing as an art, but as a means of expression for sorrow or joy?"). The latter part of the book (about sixty-one pages) contains "Travel Tips for Travel Trips," a brief collection of travel advice by Adelaide M. Wood. The travel tips or pieces of advice are structured by geographic region or destination. Each grouping of Wood's advice ranges from about one page to a few pages. The titles, as listed under the Table of Contents in this section, state or hint to the destinations Wood discusses for prospective travelers: "General Suggestions," "Into Morocco, the Land of Yesterday," "A Pilgrimage to Fez, the Metropolis of the Moors," " Through the Heart of the Moorish Empire," "A Little Journey to the Cities of the Barbary Coast," "Oases of the Algerian Sahara, a Trip to the 'Garden of Allah," "Southern Spain, Land of the Hidalgo and the Don," "To the Olympian Games in Athens," "Grecian Journeys by Caravan Around the Historic Peloponnesus," "The Wonders of Thessaly, the Country of the Meteora," "Egypt, the Land of the Pyramids and the Sphinx," "To Southern Italy, the Land of Sunshine and Song," "Through Switzerland, the Playground of Europe," "Round About Paris, or a Trip to the Quaint Corners of the French Capital," "A Pilgrimage to the Oberammergau, the Passion Play Village," "Cycling Through Corsica, the Land of the Vendetta," "A Trip to London, the Metropolis of the World," "Sightseeing in Paris, the City Magnificent," "Berlin, the City of the Kaiser," "Norway, the Land of the Midnight Sun," "Touring Sweden, Where the Boats 'Go Up Hill,'" A Journey to Denmark, the Island Kingdom," "To St. Petersburg, the Imperial City of Russia," "To Moscow, the Magnificent City of the Muscovites," "Thrans-Siberian Railway, Through a Land of Promise," "A Trip Down the Amur, the Green Gateway to the Pacific," "A Sojourn in Peking, the Capital of China," "The Forbidden City, or a Visit to the Home of 'The Son of Heaven,'" "An Excursion to Seoul, the Metropolis of the 'Land of the Morning Calm,'" "A Jaunt into the Interior of Japan, from Nikko to the Rapids of the Tenryugawa," "Visiting the Cities of Japan, from Tokyo to the Sacred Islands of the Inland Sea," "Touring the Hawaiian Islands, the Paradise of the Pacific," "A Trip to the Edge of China," "A Visit to Manila, the Capital of the Tropical Far East," "Touring the Yellowstone National Park, the Wonderland of America," "An Excursion to the Grand Canyon of Arizona, the Acme of Sublimity," "A Visit to Moki Land, the Home of the Cliff Dwellers of Arizona," and "South America, the Land of Tomorrow.".…
