One b/w map in introduction. Poett was appointed to the NWMP position of veterinarian in 1874. The trek arrived at Fort Dufferin on 19 june 1874. Poor grazing conditions, water and horses ill-suited to the task were among his problems. Read more about : Town of Winnipeg, Old Wives Lake, Dirt Hills, widows-weeds, pleuro-pneumonia, Cripple Camp, Contagious Diseases Act, Alexander Mackenzie, and Whitman Cavalry saddle. Cond : Boards are blue-grey with black lettering - spine only. End-papers are white. D.J. is khaki coloured with white lettering. Front cover photo is at the Maple Creek Barracks - circa 1894.
