Dust wrapper drawing by Peter Rudlan; about whom: "RUDLAND HAND is a calligraphic font, inspired by the work of the British artist and designer Peter Rudland. As explained in his book From Scribble to Script (John De Graff, 1956) Rudland was an advocate of this style of scriptitalic handas a way to improve one's handwriting. So although it may seem like ornamental calligraphy, Rudland intended that ordinary people would develop this beautiful, flowing, pen lettering. You could use the font as a resource for practicing your own script or, if your handwriting is as hopeless as mine, a convenient substitute.".

Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. PIERRE LOTI NOTES OF MY YOUTH FRAGMENTS OF A DIARY ASSEMBLED BY HIS SON SAMULE VIAUD 1924 1ST. Quoting from a piece of the dust jacket (I am assuming) preserved and paper-clipped to the rear endpaper of the book, to wit: "This delightful little volume, translated from the French by Rose Ellen Stein, is made up of letters hitherto unpublished and of fragments from Loti s personal diary which have been assembled for the first time by his son, Samuel Viaud. The diary covers a period of eight years, beginning in 1870 when Loti is nineteen years old, fresh from the hard discipline of the navel school, and ending in 1878 when he is a lieutenant in the French Navy, longing for the perfect peace of a monastic life strange longing to find in the heart of the most daring (and by some said to be the greatest) of exotic romancers." Please find then: "Pierre Loti, Notes of My Youth," with "Fragments of a Diary Assembled by his son, Samuel Viaud." This small hard cover book (5 ½ x 7 ¾ inches, 178 pages) was published by Doubleday, Page & Company of Garden City, New York, dated 1924 and the First Edition (so stated). The book is bound in orange colored boards with a gilt overlay and a brown cloth quarter spine with titles (now faded and very hard to read). At about the rear endpaper, there is, in addition, to the earlier mentioned fragment of the dust jacket flap, a newspaper clipping about the Pierre Loti. Condition: This book is in very good condition although as mentioned, the titles, once gilt I assume on the spine, are no longer really legible. The hard covers are bumped and rubbed and with some darkening around the edges. Inside, a former owner has left his name and date on the front endpaper but this is the only mark in the book. The interior pages are clean and bright although a bit toned on the margins but never affecting the text. The newspaper clipping, paper-clipped onto the rear endpaper has left a stain on the opposite page. Both hinges are intact and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
