Hardcover. Condizione: Good. First American Edition. The cream and brown spotted paper boards with leather corners and spine are worn at the edges and where the paper meets the leather, the body of the paper is very nice. The brown leather corners are quite worn, the spine creases are worn but not cracked, the spine worn, quite solid the primitive gold decoration is bright. This book was definitely a custom binding. The interior is foxed throughout, more so on the early and late pages, there is a pen name on the title page. Appleton 1844. First American edition. All orders packed with care, most dust jackets protected by Brodart sleeve, independent bookseller since 2011.

He spent some time as playwright with a company of strolling actors, but afterwards studied philosophy, theology and history at the University of Frankfurt (Oder), where in 1792 he established himself as a Privatdozent. His literary career mainly rests upon his enthusiasm for modern ideas in politics and religion, by the sound, practical judgment displayed in his works, and by the energy and lucidity of his style.
