Vintage candid photograph of actress Mae Murray, circa 1930s. With the stamps of International Newsreel and King Features Syndicate to the verso. Murray began her career as a ballroom dancer on Broadway and in the Ziegfeld Follies. She made her film debut in 1916 and quickly became a major star for Universal, starring alongside Rudolph Valentino in "The Delicious Little Devil" and "Big Little Person" in 1919, and with John Gilbert in "The Merry Widow" in 1925. Like many of her contemporaries, her career declined with the advent of sound film, and she retired from acting in 1931. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good, slightly wavy at the edges, with brown paper reinforcement to the bottom edge of the verso.

Two vintage reference photographs from the 1925 film, struck from the negative circa 1950s, one showing actor Mae Murray and the other showing Murray and actor John Gilbert. Based on the 1905 Hungarian operetta, which was in turn based on the 1861 French play "The Embassy Attache." A lush romantic melodrama with touches of humor involving a European prince who falls for an American dancer. The relationship falls prey to every manner of trouble, and the never-married couple eventually reunites on location at Maxim's in Paris. A rare program for an early and restrained gem by one of the great directors of the silent era. Set and partially shot on location in Paris. One photograph 8 x 10 inches, one photograph 10 x 8 inches. One Near Fine, with faint wear to the corners, one Very Good plus, with light wear to the left edge.

A Parisian dancer and her partner make their living by seducing and stealing from millionaires, to the chagrin of the local police chief. Legendary filmmaker Josef von Sternberg was initially slated to direct, but grew exasperated with Mae Murray's on-set behavior and walked out on the picture, to be replaced by Christy Cabanne. Set in Paris. 8 x 10 inches. Very Good, with light edgewear, toning, and a few pinholes to the border, not affecting the image.

An original herald pamphlet for the silent film classic ÔThe Merry WidowÕ directed by Erich von Stroheim, starring John Gilbert and Mae Murray. Paperbound, 4Ó x 6Ó. Illustrated with drawings and scenes from the film. Very good copy with some minor use and a 1/4Ó tear to the bottom edge of the rear cover. The brightly colored front cover shows Gilbert and Murray in a passionate embrace.

Rare little book, which we have never encountered before in our decades of selling cinema material. Mae Murray was a silent film star who is best remembered for starring opposite John Gilbert in the 1925 MGM film, The Merry Widow, directed by the great Erich Von Stroheim.

Inscribed: ÒTo Jess, Fondly Mae Murray.Ó With a small drawing by her of a dancing figure. 7 1/2Ó x 10Ó. In the photo Miss Murray is dancing with her co-star, the handsome John Gilbert and is the most famous image from the film, with John Gilbert bending Murray back while they are on the dance floor. Mae Murray was one of the true queens of silent films, best known for her roles in such classics as The Merry Widow, Broadway Rose, Peacock Alley, Jazzmania, The French Doll, etc.
