Sklenars unique talent resides in his ability to connect the purely momentary to a broader continuum of shared experience: photography in a post-documentary era. Milan Sklenars particular vision has evolved from front-line experience in the streets of life. Fleeing repression in his native Czechoslovakia, Sklenar set out on a journey that would take him across the North American continent. Living on the street, Sklenar faced illness, a shortage of resources, and a nomadic existence with an ironic sense of humor and a highly developed notion of the absurd. This monograph includes some of the poignant images that Sklenar made during his extraordinary journey: in the Czech Republic; Montreal; New York; Los Angeles; Thompson, Manitoba; and Gallup, New Mexico.
