This is a softcover book with 269 pages including many photos and illustrations. The binding is strong with all pages firmly attached. The prior owner wrote their name and date on the top of the title page and there is a bookplate on the first end paper. The pages are otherwise clean with no soiling or tears. The book is undated but appears to be circa 1980. The covers are clean with just a hint of edgewear. We always ship in a sturdy cardboard box!

This scarce book is a fascinating first hand account of how the British Army revolutionized sniping during World War I. Drawing on his experience as a big-game hunter and marksman, Hesketh-Prichard was instrumental in establishing the First Army School of Scouting, Observation and Sniping. The book blends vivid frontline anecdotes with detailed instruction on sniper training, camouflage, observation techniques, and counter-sniping tactics. Hesketh-Prichard viewed trench sniping as "a very high-class form of big game shooting, in which the quarry shot back," and his methods helped turn the tide against German snipers on the Western Front. It also includes appendices outlining the sniper school's curriculum and emphasizes the importance of scientific training and mental discipline. His innovations are credited with saving thousands of Allied lives. Ref A4 7.
