The Center of Military History selected the members of the team from among soldier-artists throughout the Army, based upon a review of work experiences and sample artwork. The three soldiers chosen traveled from their respective duty stations to the Center in Washington, D.C., where they worked from 19 January through 15 May 1988 on the original artwork. This team effort captured in vivid fashion the Army's noncommissioned officer performing his or her duties throughout various stages of the nation's history."
