In-8, maroquin rouge, plats ornés d'un très large encadrement de filets dorés avec, à chaque angle, un motif poussé or comprenant un bâton de maréchal entre deux tiges de laurier et deux "P"; rappel du décor sur le dos à nerfs, filets or sur les coupes; encadrements intérieurs ornés d'une roulette dorée, doublures de maroquin ve…rt bouteille encadrées de filets or et recouvertes d'un semis régulier de grandes étoiles et de points dorés, gardes de soie rouge, doubles gardes de papier peigne, tranches dorées sur brochure, couverture imprimée; Etui (Georges Mercier, succ. de son père, 1920).Edition originale de cette remarquable étude sur la carrière militaire de Maximilien Sébastien Foy (1775-1825) depuis sa jeunesse et son entrée à l'école de Châlons, sa blessure à Waterloo en 1815 qui l'oblige à cesser son activité, avec sa campagne de 1796 à l'armée du Rhin, son refus de suivre Bonaparte en Egypte, ses campagnes en Italie, en Galice et au Portugal, sa mission à Constantinople. L'ouvrage est illustré de 2 portraits reproduits en héliogravure, de 6 cartes et 3 fac-similés d'autographe. Un des très rares exemplaires non numérotés sur papier vergé (seul tirage sur grand papier). Superbe exemplaire relié en 1920 par Georges Mercier, peut-être pour le maréchal Pétain à l'époque glorieuse de l'après guerre 14-18, avec deux "P" et les symboles de maréchal sur les plats, et le semis d'étoiles sur les doublures.
