At the time this was written, the survivors were in their eighties. This recounts combat missions during WWII. The author joined the Aviation Cadet program after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He completed pilot training in early 1943 and was a 21 year-old newly minted scond lieutenant assigned to learn how to fly and operate the P-40 weapons system in a combat environment. In April of that year he joing the 57th Fighter Group and served in that distinquished unit until May, 1945. In late 1943 he transitioned to the P047 Thunderbolt which had a dynamic and positive effect on Allied air-to ground combat operations in Sicily and Italy.
