Me pareix que faria un poc llarg posant com a capçalera d'aquestes retxes, aquest títol: «En Toni Mesquida i sa seua obra». Per diversos motius: Perquè jo no puc aquí presentar ? tota Ciutadella el coneix? a s'autor d'aquesta comèdia costumista, ni donar es seu «currículum vitae», de tots sabut, ni menys fer sa crítica d'una peça teatral que es públic, a qui naturalment va destinada, ja li ha donat totes ses seues benediccions i ses absolucions necessàries. Benediccions perquè l'han aplaudida llarga i calorosament aquí a Menorca i també a Barcelona; absolucions, perquè també, com a tota obra humana, hi ha qualque pecatonet que perdonar. No me posaré, idò, en pla d'exercir sa crítica teatral que altre temps vaig fer, com tantes diverses funcions periodístiques en el diari «La Almudaina » de Palma, i que vaig «heredar» d'es propi director quan va morir: de dony Geroni Amengual, homo intel·ligent, mestre de periodistes i crític incisiu, a més d'autor teatral i persona equilibrada. En Toni Mesquida és molt probable (no Vhi he preguntat) que ho ignoràs, quan me va demanar ? i amb molt de gust escric? aquestes retxes. Segurament, no va pensar sinó què, entre amics, això era una cosa natural, posat que un d'ells ? un servidor? no ha fet tota sa seua vida més que això: escriure. De maneres, sortiré un poc de botador i diré quatre paraules que m'ha suggerit tot d'una, sa lectura d'es tres actes de «Ciutadella és L'Havana ». I comentaré que crec que ens trobam, segurament, davant un autor que assaja es difícils dots d'escriptor teatral; que sap crear estimables situacions escèniques, que coneix com moure uns personatges de ficció i que és capaç també de dur a escena un clima intemporal ? gran cosa! ? és a dir a bastament per aguantar modes i modos, per que és sa resultància d'un inamobible amor, estimació, carinyo i altres herbes que En Toni Mesquida Cavaller sent per Menorca, per a tot lo autènticament menorquí i, si voleu precisar més, ciutadellenc.
