Messenger lived on the island and studied the community in 1959 and 1960. The island in reality is called Inisheer. It was deliberately misnamed to "protect the people". Inisheer is the smallest and most easterly of the three Aran Islands in Galway Bay, Ireland. Age toned text block. Browned edges.
