Full-size black and white plates illustrate the text with an appropriately dreamlike quality, interspersed with decorative Art Nouveau in-text line drawings./ Robert Sholto Johnstone Douglas (1871Ð1958) known as Sholto Douglas, or more formally as Sholto Johnstone Douglas, was a Scottish figurative artist of portraits and landscapes. Douglas's cousin Lord Alfred Douglas, or 'Bosie', was a close friend of the writer Oscar Wilde. In 1895, he stood surety for the bail of Oscar Wilde. /Sibyl Montgomery, Marchioness of Queensberry (1845 -1935) had her portrait painted in her 61st year by Sholto Johnstone Douglas/Carlos Schwabe (1866Ð1926) was a Swiss Symbolist painter and printmaker. As a young man in Paris he worked as a wallpaper designer and became acquainted with Symbolist artists, musicians (Guillaume Lekeu, Vincent d'Indy) and writers. Schwabe received the French Lgion of Honor in 1902. Near very good. Slight general wear & slight marking and rubbing of covers. Clipped half title page. Signedes.
