An den Tübinger Bibliothekar und Bibliothekswissenschaftler Georg Leyh in Zusammenhang mit einem 1926 erschienen biographischen Artikel über den Ägyptologen und Bibliothekar Richard Pietschmann (1851-1923). Der Brief vom 24. Februar 1924 enthältt eine Darstellung von Pietschmanns Studienzeit in Leipzig, wo er bei Georg Ebers promovierte: "Pietschmann kam im J. 1873 nach Leipzig, wo wir uns alsbald in den Vorlesungen kennenlernten. Er war etwa drei Jahre älter als ich, und hatte vorher in Berlin studiert. Im Mittelpunkt seiner Interessen stand die Anthropologie [.]. Im Sommer 1874 promovierte er mit einer ägyptologischen Dissertation (Hermes Trismegistos) und hat dann Leipzig verlassen, um zunächst sein Dienstjahr zu absolvieren. Dann hat er bekanntlich die Bibliothekscarriere ergriffen. [.] Seine weitere Laufbahn ist Ihnen ja bekannt. Zu großen wissenschaftlichen Werken ist er nicht gekommen; das lag nicht in seiner ganzen mehr receptiven Art [.]". - In der Postkarte vom 25. Mai 1927 dankt Meyer Leyh für die Biographie seines frühverstorbenen Kollegen: "Haben Sie herzlichen Dank für die freundliche Zusendung des vortrefflichen Lebensbildes Pietschmanns, das ich mit großem Interesse und enormer Teilnahme gelesen habe. Sie haben sein Wesen und seine Bedeutung vollkommen zutreffend [.] gezeichnet". - Nach seiner Studienzeit in Leipzig arbeitete Meyer kurzfristig als Erzieher im Haus des englischen Generalkonsuls in Konstantinopel. 1879 habilitierte er sich in Leipzig und arbeitete mehrere Jahre als Privatdozent für Alte Geschichte. In dieser Zeit entstand sein Plan für eine Gesamtgeschichte des Altertums, sein späteres Hauptwerk. Sein Hauptwerk ist die Geschichte des Alterthums (5 Bände, 18841902). - Der Fotograf Rudolf Dührkoop (1848-1918) war ein Hamburger Porträtfotograf. Zunächst Autodidakt, arbeitete Dührkoop seit 1883 als Berufsfotograf. Maßgeblich beeinflusst durch Alfred Lichtwark wurde er ab ca. 1900 zu einem der führenden Vertreter der Kunstfotografie. - Originale Photogravüre aus Dührkoops Mappe "Kamera-Bildnisse von Mitgliedern der Königlich Preußischen Akademie der Wissenschaften". - Sauber und gut erhalten.
